Happy autumn, Mythfits!
Fall feels like the perfect time for a fresh start, doesn’t it? Nature is changing, the wheel of seasons is churning, and I’m churning right along with it.
I feel unbelievably awkward writing this reintroduction after disappearing for like two years. Where I’ve been isn’t important. What’s important is that I’m back in the writer/creator’s seat now. So, rather than go into some deep, emotional exploration of my burnout or depression or disillusionment or whatever, I’m just going to say HELLO!
The key change in my thinking that’s filling me with so much excitement right now is focussing on the things that bring me joy. I’m sweeping away all the things I’m “supposed to do” or “should do” or “have to do” according to anyone else’s idea of what a writing career has to look like. This is my life and my career and it’s not going to look like anyone else’s. And not only is that okay, but that’s actually essential.
So, what does that mean going forward? Well, first of all, it means way more bonus content posted here on this blog. I’ve so missed creating short stories, recipes, character profiles, and other behind-the-book extras for my story worlds. I’m (tentatively) planning to post something new every week. Who knows if I’ll be able to maintain that level of production in the long run, but for now it feels right.
I’ve already posted two fun new things:
I’m also going to use these monthly updates in place of my email newsletter. But if you prefer to get content in your inbox, fear not. At some point in the near future I’m going to set it up so that all my blog posts get sent to my mailing list. If you want to make sure you never miss a post, be sure to sign up.
I also have some exciting book news to share! As of this month, the rights to the Sweet Venom trilogy have reverted to me. (Cue the confetti cannons!) The Medusa girls are my precious, favorite babies and I’ve been wanting them back in my control for a very, very, very long time. And now they are!
Unfortunately that means the books are currently unavailable. (You can still find the print editions for sale in some places, but not the ebooks.) I’m doing the work right now to get them ready to republish, but I’m taking my time to make sure everything down to the tiniest detail is exactly how I want it to be. It’s going to take me a few (or more) months to get it all ready.
I’m hoping to have Sweet Venom ready to republish in early 2025.
I’ve been doing a lot of work on my website (like the pretty new background and cleaning up old blog posts) and I’m hoping to relaunch my store in the not-so-distant. I also have plans for new books (as always), including a prequel to the Sweet Venom trilogy and a fun new mythology-based series. Past me would set arbitrary deadlines, creating unrealistic expectations that would either overwhelm me or lead to inevitable disappointment. Current me is saying… someday. When the pieces fall into place.
So that’s where everything stands right now. I’m taking it… not necessarily slow, but at the pace that works. If anyone comes looking for me, they’ll find me creating and sharing worldbuilding extras, watching all the amazing mystery shows currently streaming, and sinking into the coziness of the season.
Hugs,
TLC
