OH. MY. GODS. FAQ: What About Nicole?

Two months after the release of OH. MY. GODS. and by far the most frequently asked question is, “Who is Nicole descended from?”

[I should warn you right now that you won’t find the answer in this post.]

The truth is, Nicole didn’t tell me who her god was. When she and Troy were giving Phoebe the crash course in Academy cliques, she didn’t dish on herself. Phoebe tried to ask a time or two, but Nicole always managed to evade the question.

“But I’m the author,” I whined. “I should know.”

“Not yet,” she insisted.

“When?” I asked.

“When you need to know.”

Well, I’m impatient, so I tried to figure it out on my own. At first I thought she must be a descendant of Hades (she has that whole edgy, I-dare-you attitude) but she is definitely not a goth. All through OH. MY. GODS. I kept trying to figure it out. She’s a sneaky one, though, and by the the end I still had no clue.

Then I started the sequel, GODDESS BOOTCAMP. “Maybe now she’ll tell me,” I thought. Phoebe tries again to find out (this time by asking Griffin) but again she gets no answer. Which means I got no answer. Two whole books, and Nicole managed to keep her secret.

But then … I started thinking about a third book. (I’m not contracted for a third book in the series yet, but if sales are good then hopefully it will continue.*) I came up with a really fabulous premise. As I thought about the story that would develop from that premise it suddenly hit me. Nicole finally told me the truth. (She really had to this time, because her heritage is integral to the story.)

So there you have it, my excuse for not revealing Nicole’s god. It’s all her fault. She never freakin’ told me! (Isn’t that just like her?)
