Gretchen’s Twelve Days of Mythmas

I asked Gretchen to write something for my blog. She said–and I quote:

I have way more important things to do, like saving the city from a family of basilisks that have nested in the attic of the Transamerica Pyramid.

Fair enough.

She did, however, send me her version of the Twelve Days of Christmas. I like to imagine her humming along to this song as she prowls the streets of San Francisco looking for mythological monsters.

The Twelve Days of Mythmas (According to Gretchen Sharpe)

On the first day of Mythmas, the Greek gods sent to me
A pegasus in a pomegranate tree.

On the second day of Mythmas, the Greek gods sent to me
Two teumessian foxes
and a pegasus in a pomegranate tree.

On the third day of Mythmas, the Greek gods sent to me
Three phoenix rising, two teumessian foxes,
And a pegasus in a pomegranate tree.

On the fourth day of Mythmas, the Greek gods sent to me
Four calydonian boars, three phoenix rising, two teumessian foxes,
And a pegasus in a pomegranate tree.

On the fifth day of Mythmas, the Greek gods sent to me
Five gold-horned deer.
Four calydonian boars, three phoenix rising, two teumessian foxes,
And a pegasus in a pomegranate tree.

On the sixth day of Mythmas, the Greek gods sent to me
Six griffins guarding,
Five gold-horned deer.
Four calydonian boars, three phoenix rising, two teumessian foxes,
And a pegasus in a pomegranate tree.

On the seventh day of Mythmas, the Greek gods sent to me
Seven centaurs strutting, six griffins guarding,
Five gold-horned deer.
Four calydonian boars, three phoenix rising, two teumessian foxes,
And a pegasus in a pomegranate tree.

On the eighth day of Mythmas, the Greek gods sent to me
Eight minotaurs munching, seven centaurs strutting, six griffins guarding,
Five gold-horned deer.
Four calydonian boars, three phoenix rising, two teumessian foxes,
And a pegasus in a pomegranate tree.

On the ninth day of Mythmas, the Greek gods sent to me
Nine dryads dancing, eight minotaurs munching, seven centaurs strutting, six griffins guarding,
Five gold-horned deer.
Four calydonian boars, three phoenix rising, two teumessian foxes,
And a pegasus in a pomegranate tree.

On the tenth day of Mythmas, the Greek gods sent to me
Ten cyclops squinting, nine dryads dancing, eight minotaurs munching, seven centaurs strutting, six griffins guarding,
Five gold-horned deer.

And a pegasus in a pomegranate tree.

On the eleventh day of Mythmas, the Greek gods sent to me
Eleven harpies howling, ten cyclops squinting, nine dryads dancing, eight minotaurs munching, seven centaurs strutting, six griffins guarding,

On the twelfth day of Mythmas, the Greek gods sent to me
Twelve chimeras clogging, eleven harpies howling, ten cyclops squinting, nine dryads dancing, eight minotaurs munching, seven centaurs strutting, six griffins guarding,
Five gold-horned deer.
