It’s hard to believe that it’s been more than ten years since the first book in the Oh. My. Gods. series came out!
If you don’t know anything about the series, here’s the summary: Oh. My. Gods. is about a cross-country-running California girl who gets uprooted her senior year and ends up on a tiny island in the Aegean at a school for the descendants of the gods.
Since Phoebe and crew have been out in the world for so long, I thought it would be fun to share a series update.
Here’s what you’ll find out:
- What inspired the Oh. My. Gods. series?
- What books are in the series?
- What does the future hold?

The Inspiration
This is a really round-about path, so bear with me…
After writing Eye Candy, the second book I ever finished, I got to work on my next chick lit book. In Straight Stalk, the main character is working on a TV show inspired by Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. I needed to come up with a name for the show in my book. So I started looking at other reality TV show titles that I could maybe tweak into a show title.
I stumbled across Growing Up Gotti, which is about the daughter and grandsons of the mob boss John Gotti.
My first thought was: Growing Up Godly.
I loved that title. I wanted to write a book with that title.
Because someone was “Growing Up” I knew it had to be a young adult book.
Because I don’t write religious fiction I knew that the “Godly” aspect had to mean something else. I had always loved Greek mythology, so that was a perfect fit.
So, basically, Queer Eye and the mob inspired the Oh. My. Gods. series.
The Books
As of right now, October 2019, there are three books in the series.
Oh. My. Gods. is the first book, about Phoebe Castro, whose mom has just gotten remarried to the headmaster of The Academy, a super-elite private school on the supposedly uninhabited island of Serfopoula. She has to leave behind her best friends and her future plans as she struggles to find her place a school for the descendants of Greek gods
Goddess Boot Camp is the sequel, which means I can’t tell you much about it without spoiling the first book. It’s another book about Phoebe and her friends, challenges, and adventures at The Academy.
Goddess In Time is a connected novella starring Nicole Matios, one of Phoebe’s closest friends. If you read the first two books, you know that Nicole is a bit of a mystery. All of the questions about her are answered in this book.
The Future
The Oh. My. Gods. series is far from over!
I am currently writing the first draft of a novella about Griffin Blake, the cross-country-running hottie that Phoebe meets almost as soon as she steps foot on the island. I don’t have a release date yet, but it should be by the end of 2019.
When I first wrote Oh. My. Gods. I wasn’t planning to write a sequel (my characters got their happy ending, end of story), but then my publisher wanted one and Goddess Boot Camp was born. Originally I was going to write stories about Phoebe’s best friends, Nola and Cesca, next. And I’m still planning to write those, probably as novellas, sometime soon.
There might be some other secondary characters who have stories that need to be told, too.
AND I have plans for at least one more book about Phoebe. I have a title and a premise and a basic plot, it’s just a matter of fitting it into my schedule.
