One of the projects I’m most excited to tackle this year is giving some of my indie books (aka those titles I’ve published on my own) a bit of an upgrade. This means maybe tweaking the cover, polishing up the interior, and adding new formats.
The first book to get the upgrade treatment is Pretty in Pearls!
What’s New?
1. Cover Tweak
The old cover (which was actually the second cover for this title) had dark pink title lettering, which made it very hard to read on black-and-white e-readers.
Now the title lettering is a beautiful pale pink, which stands out more and I think fits the tone of the story better, too.
2. Pretty Inside
I don’t know about you, but I love books that have extra special design elements on the inside. I found a super cute shell-and-pearl icon to use throughout the book. You can see it in chapter headings and ornamental breaks.
Also, thanks to the improvements in my book formatting app (shout out to Vellum) I am now able to include full-bleed (edge-to-edge) images in print editions. That means I can have prettier title and half-title pages:
And I can include two-page spreads, like this map of the Mer Kingdoms of the Western Atlantic:
3. Hardcover Version
This is the biggest upgrade of all! For the first time ever, Pretty in Pearls is available in hardcover!
If you’ve been waiting for this, you can order your copy here:
One of the reasons I decided to finally do this is because the print-on-demand distributor that I use now has the ability to created jacketed case wrap books, which means I can make the cover under the jacket just as pretty as the dust jacket.
Here’s what the Pretty in Pearls case wrap looks like:
So those are the upgrades I’ve complete so far. I hope you’re as excited about them as I am! But I’m not finished yet…
Coming Soon
1. Audiobook Version
One of my big project goals for the year is to produce audiobook versions of all of my titles. I’m even planning to record them myself! I just have to get my recording space set up. Stay tuned for news on that front.
2. Special Edition
Sometime later in the year, I might produce a special edition hardcover version. This would include color interior elements, like the chapter heading shell, and probably some additional illustrations sprinkled throughout the book.
What’s Next?
The next title to get the upgrade treatment will be Goddess in Time.
In the meantime, be sure to check out the Pretty in Pearls upgrades and let me know what you think!
